Lord PunWisp: technically vista is alot better for gaming then xp. Plus vista is more stable then XP. One of the main reason people say it sucks is because they cant tweak vista like xp... when you try to tweak vista, it backfires on you.

spintercellguy: Okay, so how exactly is Vista great for gaming? My understanding is that Vista now forces all applications to share the GPU for its fancy effects. Not sure how that helps my FPS. Stability? I have to wait 20 minutes for Vista to complete "system requirement scan" on an OEM laptop that's supposed to run Vista with adequate performance. And as for the tweaking, give examples? If you tweak your registry and delete the keys under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE hive, it backfires of course.

Lord PunWisp: Great security, yea that security thing is annoying but if you think about it, its VERY good.

spintercellguy: How so? If Vista is going to make me blindly press accept because I'm busy and really don't care, then maybe one day I might accidentally accept a worm. People don't really have the time to scrutinize each and every single file they download. Anyone heard of principle of least privilege?

Lord PunWisp: yea sometimes you may have probloms playing certain games, because they arnt compatible with vista. Let me tell you, its GREAT for gaming. You wouldnt believe all the things you can do with vista, that xp CANT do.

spintercellguy: So incompatibility with old games is great for gaming?

Lord PunWisp: with just a microphone, you wont need to use the keyboard anymore, or even the mouse(sept gaming) you can voice activate everything, if your on the forums, you talk thru the mic and it will type it for you. no spelling mistake or grammer mistakes.

spintercellguy: This feature isn't exactly new. The Speech API has been supported since Windows 95/Windows NT 3.51, so this "remarkable" capability isn't exactly a new feature. Also, applications have to implement specific portions of the SAPI in order to be able to use them with speech recognition. So I can't exactly issue orders using my mic in C&C 3 without some extra work. And in order to get somewhere close to no spelling error, you have to spend hours with recognition training. And grammar mistakes? That's up to you.

Lord PunWisp: I thought vista was s*** too before i got it. Everyone told me vista was s***, i wanted xp, so we were gonna nuke my new comp coming from dell when it comes.

spintercellguy: Shoulda bought a Ubuntu comp or installed from CD.

Lord PunWisp: so i went to test the computer, vista is ******* amazing in my opinion. Sure its different but this stuff happens, once you get sued to it, youll love it, and clicking the permission crap is just a regular thing.

spintercellguy: Hardly amazing when I have to wait 20 minutes on first start-up and still runs like ass. I really don't see anything compelling with Vista at this time. Halo 2 CAN be run on XP with some patch and a new compatibility layer. Crysis is being written for DirectX 9, so it won't be using DX10 features UNTIL a patch comes out. As for permissions, I really don't need to tell Vista to let it move my files to the trash bin.

Lord PunWisp: if you had xp, and someone sent you a virus or adware, you wouldnt even know until you use your anti adware/anti virus programs, so thinks can happen

spintercellguy: Well, what's anti-virus/spyware for? It's also called patching and not going to porn sites.

Lord PunWisp: with vista it asks you if you gave this file permission to install or look at your files(lets say a virus) click no or cancel, that virus wont be on your computer.

spintercellguy: So if you approved an update from Microsoft and its digital signature was forged, you're safe? Again, principle of least privilege. There's absolutely no reason to have any sort of admin power at all.

Lord PunWisp: xp sure its fun to tweak, but then you have to keep tweaking it because it doesnt work right, sure you can do alot with it. Vista has WAY more security, and justplain able to do more things

spintercellguy: Security? ANI exploit anyone? Well, last I checked, Vista doesn't exactly excuse the administrator from tweaking, else why would it have a control panel? There's nothing wrong with tweaking for better performance. OSes don't magically get maximal performance out of the box.

Lord PunWisp: if a computer has the parts(only vista) you can plug in multiple monitors, 1 on each side. if you set it up on vista, you can move your mouse off the screen(left) it will go to the next monitor, same thing on the right. Cool or what? my brother did it with his laptop.

spintercellguy: Support for multi-monitors has been around since Windows 2000; this isn't exactly a new feature.

Lord PunWisp: Most pple who dont like vista is because they cant tweak, or certain games dont work on it.

spintercellguy: And it demands 1 GB for adequate performance when I was chugging fine on 512 MB.

Lord PunWisp: vista is more stable
Better for gaming
really good security
there are amazing things you can do with vista you cant with XP

spintercellguy: So GPU sharing is good for gaming? And getting nagged is great for security? And what exactly is so special about Vista? .NET Framework 3 runs on XP, WinFS got dropped, maybe DX10 is the reason, but I understand that a Google Summer of Code project is working on implementing DX10 on the Wine compatibility layer.

Lord PunWisp: just get Vista and see how you like it. i hated it before i tried it, i tried it, now i love it. i play C&C 3 on it, works great. Fast too

spintercellguy: Maybe with high specs.

Lord PunWisp: trust me vista is a whole lot better then XP

spintercellguy: also i found it interesting vista loads everything at once, xp doesnt.

spintercellguy: also vista is alot different, and would take a bit to get used to. Just like playing a good game, different but very fun

spintercellguy: I tried Release Candidate 2 and retail; I really don't need to get a kick out of my OS. What I care about is actual performance and stability, along with working. And what do you mean by "load everything"? You can't load 50 processes at the same time, you can only load one at a time INHERENTLY. Multitasking is really an illusion, only one process runs on the CPU at any time.
